How To Kickstart Your Goals NOW

Last week, I posted about finding your passions, and now it is time the time to get started on your goals! If you have been following my blog, you probably know my passion is writing. Sometimes, I just want to sit on the couch and watch Christmas movies, but there comes a time where I have to sit down and START MY GOALS.

I have a lot of goals, and I’m sure you do too! Life is crazy and full of adventures that are happening! For me, my softball season is about four months away, midterms are creeping up, and my word count is hanging over my head; and this is just some of the things I want to get ready for and do now!

The hardest part for me is TO GET STARTED. I always find an excuse to not do it like “It’s raining” or “If the suns not up, I’m not up.”

KILL PROCRASTINATION with these tips to get you moving towards your goals and daily deeds

1. Consequence

This method requires accountability. Lots of times, a person makes their consequence but will “forget” to do it, (we all know you just don’t want to do it!). Whether it’s telling your sibling or husband or whomever you trust, they can help enforce your self inflicted punishment. I do this method a lot of time, especially for waking up in the morning. If I don’t make up by 7am, I force myself to drink a glass of apple cider vinegar. ACV is a terrible beverage, but it is healthy for me, so at least I get a benefit when I drink it. But, when I don’t wake up on time and my sister comes in the kitchen, watching my pain as I shoot down the drink, and then LAUGHING, also motivates

2. Reward

On the flip side, is there something you can’t help but constantly check the price on your favorite online store? What can you REWARD yourself with if you reach your word count or fastest mile speed?

But there is a catch, try to avoid external input rewards ie. don’t let someone else reward you, reward yourself when you finish your goal.

3. Inspiration

Why did you start doing what you love? What propelled you forward, and what is stopping you now? Is it the uncertainty of the future that is holding you back?

Think about your future, visualize the house you are going to have, the type of shoes you are wearing, and the place you are going. Use that energy to focus on your task at hand. Talk to someone who is a veteran in the area of expertise you are targeting, watch a couple TED talk videos, read a good book, get inspired!

Maybe even make a Pinterest board to envision how you want your life or if you really want to motivate yourself create A VISION BOARD with quotes and pictures pinned on a cork board, so everyday you are visually reminded of what you are doing and your goals.

4. Set Intentions and Have a Mantra

By setting your mind straight before focusing on what you want to do, you are able to channel your energy. Mantras are phrases or quotes you repeat to yourself to refocus and meditate. There are all sorts of mantras, even bible quotes can be considered a mantra and some foreign language phrases are good too! Slip into the zone, and once you reach the calm state, go straight to work and get your goals done!

Here are some examples/ones I like!

“I change my thoughts, I change my world.”

“Every day in every way I’m getting better and better.”

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
